Kingwood to get six-story residential loft building

The urbanization of Houston-area suburbs, in the form of town squares and loft buildings, has already reached The Woodlands and Sugar Land. Next stop: Kingwood.

A Houston developer is planning a six-story residential loft building in the suburban area north of Houston off
U.S. 59.

Midway Cos. said it has taken nine reservations for the 41 units planned in the building. The lofts are priced from the $300,000s to $1 million.

"It's unique for Kingwood because it has views of the water," Midway's John Sebastinas said.

The building, called Harbor Lofts, is part of the company's larger Kings Harbor project under development along Lake Houston at Lake Houston Parkway. The development will mix shops and restaurants with office space and condos.

Once about half of the residential units are pre-sold, Midway will break ground on the loft building.
"We're hoping the condos are finished by the end of 2007," Sebastinas said.

Suburban loft condominiums have been successful in other Houston-area suburbs.

A second condo building in The Woodlands is under construction after the first one sold out, and there are similar residential projects in the works in Sugar Land
